Lord Kalki Avatar of Lord Vishnu in Kaliyug

Kalki or Kalkin is regarded as the last and final avatar (incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. According to the Hindu Puranas, Lord Kalki is prophesied as the tenth avatar of Hindu God Lord Vishnu in Kaliyug.

In this post, we have featured some interesting facts about Lord Kalki avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Bhagavan Kalki is supposed to take birth to end the Kali Yuga and start a new cycle with Satya Yuga. He has been described as the avatar that would rejuvenate the existence by ending adharma (evil, wrongness, disharmony, immorality, wickedness, and vice).

Lord Kalki Avatar

Hindus have portrayed Bhagavan Kalki as the Lord who rides on the horse Devadatta and carries a sword in his hand. This appearance of Lord Kalki has been described in the Srimad Bhagavatam Mahapurana.

This is by far the most popular description of Bhagavan Kalki. However, some Hindu texts have described Lord Kalki as an invisible force that destroys evil and chaos. He has also been portrayed as someone that leads an army of warriors.

In fact, the name Kalki has been derived from the root word “Kaal,” which means “time” as Kaliyug.

The Garud Puran has listed ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, with Kalki being the tenth. He is the avatar that would end the chaotic stage of Kaliyug. He is the warrior to eradicate the forces of evil. So, he is the one to restart a new cycle of time.

It has been predicted that Bhagavan Kalki will usher the new cycle of a perfect era where righteousness will reign supreme, and people will live long and happy lives.

The Kalki avatar has been mentioned in the Hindu Maha-Puranas, such as Srimad Bhagavata Purana, Vishnu Purana, and Matsya Purana. Moreover, the Kalki avatar has been mentioned in the great war epic Mahabharata.

He has been described as an extension of the Parashurama avatar of Lord Vishnu, who destroyed those kings who were abusing their power for spreading chaos and evil.

It has also been predicted that this epic character of Kalki will restore righteousness & justice (Dharma) in the world. However, he will not end the cycle of existence.

This description of Kalki in the Mahabharata occurs in the Markandeya section.

The Hindu Puranas have listed many ways to identify Kalki avatar. For instance, the Padma Purana has described that Lord Kalki will gather all Brahmanas and propagate the highest truth.

It has been said that the Kalki avatar possesses the power to change the course of time to restore the path of truth. In fact, he will turn the wheel of Dharma.

Lord Shiva will grant him the weapon to eradicate adharma. He will fulfill the prophecy of Lord Shiva, as described in Kalki Purana.

Kalki’s second identification would be the nativity of his wife. It has been mentioned in the Kalki Purana that his wife the Padma would be from Simhala Island.

As Kalki mythology is most prevalent in India, so if Kalki is considered Indian, then his wife would be a foreigner who would belong either to an island country or a country that has an island as its parts.

The Kalki Purana states that Bhagavan Kalki would be a warrior who would be awarded a powerful weapon by Lord Shiva before his marriage to a woman named Padma from the island of Simhala.

It has also been predicted that his father would be Visnu Yasa, who would be a learned Brahmana. This has been stated in Srimad Bhagavatam.

The Kalki avatar will fight many wars. He will end evil. He would usher in a new “Yuga” (as Satya Yuga) and would ascend to the heaven. However, the accurate time of Kalki’s birth has not been predicted.

The above signs can be very instrumental in identifying anyone as Kalki.

What is the reason for Lord Vishnu appearing as Kalki Avatar in the Kaliyug?

In the Hindu Puranas, it has been mentioned that Lord Vishnu was once cursed by Sage Bhrigu. It so happened that Asuras took shelter in the ashram of Sage Bhrigu. One day Indra and all the other Devtas attacked the Asuras, who were unarmed at that time.

The Asuras ran to the wife of Sage Bhrigu (Kavyamata) for shelter who immobilized Indra and other Devtas using her Yogic powers. So, Kavyamata was able to safeguard the Asuras.

Indra and other Devas went to Lord Vishnu for help. So, Lord Vishnu cut the head of Kavyamata to save Asuras.

When Sage Bhrigu returned and saw the horrific condition of his wife, he was totally broken. He got immensely furious on Lord Vishnu and cursed him that he would have to bear on earth for several times and suffer the pain of Mrityu Loka.

It is due to this curse of Sage Bhrigu that Lord Vishnu has to appear on Earth time and again. It is believed that Lord Vishnu would appear on earth for the last time in the form of Kalki avatar during the end of Kaliyug to restore peace by killing all evils.

He would make the earth a peaceful place to live in. He would possess tremendous energy, great intelligence, as well as infinite powers. He would establish peace and order in the world. A new era of truth will dawn on earth.

Nostradamus Predictions on Kalki Avatar

Prophecies made by Nostradamus clearly point towards Kalki Avatar. For instance, he has stated: “Of the three water signs will be born a person who will celebrate Thursday as his holy day. His name and fame will grow everywhere across land and sea that will free the east from trouble.”

If we analyze this prophecy, then the three water bodies may correspond to the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal. So, this person will be born in India. It may be safely assumed that this person may be born in the Hindu religion as it is the religion in which Thursday is celebrated as the holy day.

Is Kaliyug at its final stage?

The total period of Kaliyug, as stated in the holy scriptures of Hinduism, comprises of 4,32,000 years. Although only a few thousand years have elapsed since the start of Kaliyug, it can be seen that the effects of modern science have advanced the pace of Kaliyug. (Some experts believe each Yuga is of about 24000 years and Kanliyug is soon going to end.)

In fact, what would have taken a thousand years to achieve in the past, now can be done in a matter of a few hours.

So, the developments of modern science have brought humanity to the brink of disaster. For instance, nuclear weapons can eradicate the human race from the earth. If World War III took place, then it would totally destroy the human race.

It means that Kaliyug is approaching its end. So, according to the prophecies, Kalki avatar is bound to happen somewhere!

Is Lord Kalki already born?

Nothing concrete can be said about the birth of Lord Kalki. In fact, there are different possibilities. Let’s consider them one by one.

  • Yes, he has been born

According to the Kalki Puran, Bhagavan Kalki will be born when the moon is in the Dhanishta Nakshatra, and the sun will be in the Swati Nakshatra. Such constellations were present in 2012, so he might have been born then, it’s just that we don’t know.

  • No, he hasn’t been born yet

According to some Hindu holy scriptures, his birth has been predicted when the earth purges into darkness at the end of Kaliyug when the three great rivers (Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati) ascend back to heaven (they turn dry). So, probably he hasn’t come yet.

  • Yes, if you can consider him to be born

Here, we consider Kalki as an idea and not as an entity. So, Kalki can be thought of as energy that flows in us. It helps us to distinguish between good and evil. It is the very personification of Dharma.

When we do misdeeds, we are in the grip of darkness (Kaliyug). When we stop them, we transcend to Kalki. It means that the birth of Kalki is in your hand. When you tread the path of righteousness, you are transcending Kaliyug. Kalki gives us the power to battle the negative energies which deter us from achieving our cherished goals.

So, we find that the Bhagavan Kalki Avatar of Lord Vishnu in Kaliyug is going to be our savior. However, we can enlighten the powers of Kalki in us by following the path of truth and righteousness.

Lastly, we praise Lord Kalki Avatar.

Jai! Jai! Bhagavan Kalki
