Who is the writer of Om Jai Jagdish Hare?

The popular Hindu religious poem “Om Jai Jagdish Hare” is the work of a famous literary figure of the 19th century Pandit Shardha Ram Phillauri.

Pandit Shardha Ram was a social reformer and a trendsetter in both Hindi and Punjabi literature. He was a true Hindi lover and an effective writer of his times.

He wrote the popular Hindu prayer Om Jai Jagdish Hare in 1870 which is now sung by almost every Hindu family all over the world.

Shardha Ram was a poet of eternal devotion and dedication on par with Saint Tulsidas and Surdas of the Bhakti Movement. He was born in a Hindu Brahmin family at a small town Phillaur (Jalandhar) in the year 1837.

Some of his other notable works include Sikhan De Raj Di Vithia and Punjabi Batcheet in Gurumukhi which earned him the title of “Father of modern Punjabi prose.”
